Parches de octubre de Windows Server rompen el acceso a Exchange: Outlook sin entrar y correos atascadosOctober Windows Server patches break Exchange: Outlook sign-in fails and emails get stuck

2026-10-19

Microsoft acknowledged on its Windows release health dashboard that the October 2026 security updates for Windows Server 2019 and later are causing problems on some on-premises Exchange servers. BleepingComputer reported the news on October 19.

What breaks

  • Users unable to sign in to Outlook or Outlook on the web (OWA).
  • Emails sent from Outlook that sit in the Outbox and are never delivered.
  • Trouble accessing mailboxes during replication, with errors such as MapiExceptionMdbOffline and Event ID 1006 in the application log.

The cause according to Microsoft

The October update added a default limit on the memory the Endpoint Mapper uses for endpoint lookup calls. The default of 512 simultaneous calls may not be enough for Exchange under heavy load. Microsoft says the failures are not caused by the Exchange security updates and that not all servers are affected equally, since it depends on load.

Temporary workaround

Microsoft advises against uninstalling the updates and, as a stopgap, suggests adding a registry value (EpmapSavedContextCap, set to 65536) on the Exchange server and rebooting, then monitoring the environment. A permanent fix is still being worked on. Check Microsoft's official notice before changing anything.

Why it matters for support and customer service

For many companies email is not just internal communication: it is an intake channel for customer requests and incident notices. When email fails, cases stop arriving or get answered late. A continuity plan should say which alternate channel receives requests and how history is preserved when a service goes down.

In Servigo365, TEKFENIX's help desk, requests are logged as tickets with history, owner and response times (SLA) and can arrive through several channels, so an outage in one does not leave customers without a way to reach you. And in Nexturno, branches organize tickets and appointments with wait-time metrics, another way to keep service running when a channel fails. Orderly processes and data are the foundation for deciding calmly when and what to automate.
