Windows 11 y Always On VPN: Microsoft admite que no resolvió el fallo de conexión y da una solución temporalWindows 11 and Always On VPN: Microsoft admits it did not fix the connection bug and offers a workaround

2026-10-22

BleepingComputer reported on October 21, 2026 that Microsoft acknowledged its October updates did not fix an Always On VPN bug in Windows 11. The issue was acknowledged in late September, marked resolved on October 13, and then returned to mitigated status.

The symptom

  • It affects Windows 11 24H2 and later after installing the September 2026 security updates.
  • With automatic protocol selection or fallback between protocols (IKEv2 and SSTP), the VPN connection can hang on "Connecting" or fail after a first failed attempt.
  • Later attempts may show the error "The specified port is already in use".

Workaround

Microsoft advises administrators to change the Always On VPN profile from automatic protocol selection to a single protocol, SSTP or IKEv2, depending on the environment and security requirements. The permanent fix will arrive, the company says, in an update "in the coming weeks", with no specific date.

Impact on support

When the VPN fails, remote workers cannot reach their systems and the help desk is flooded with requests that share one symptom but often arrive in different words. It helps to group the cases under a single parent incident, publish the protocol-change guide and notify affected users.

This is the kind of episode where Servigo365 brings order: it records each request as a ticket with history, lets you link repeated cases to one incident, communicate status across several channels and track SLA compliance until the permanent patch arrives. And if in-person branch service depends on VPN-connected equipment, Nexturno helps keep queues and waiting times under control with turn management and metrics.
