2026-09-30

On September 29, 2026, Talent Up was announced: a program that will award 15,000 free digital-skills scholarships to prepare Dominican talent for Industry 5.0. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and SMEs (MICM) serves as technical secretariat, with the IDB Group, Google Cloud and Cisco Networking Academy as implementation partners.

Context: free trade zones and nearshoring

According to the figures released, the country has 859 free-trade-zone companies across 95 industrial parks, more than US$6 billion in exports through August 2026 and 199,044 direct jobs, 53% held by women. Minister Yayo Sanz Lovatón framed the initiative around nearshoring and friendshoring, with a global industrial relocation market estimated at US$1.03 trillion.

What it means for businesses

  • A larger local pool of cloud, networking, data and AI profiles.
  • Positive pressure to digitize operations: plants and offices receiving investment will need world-class processes, customer service and compliance.
  • An opportunity for SMEs to adopt custom software and SaaS solutions with better-prepared teams to run them.

Technology and talent go hand in hand

Training people is only half of the equation: organizations also need tools that turn that talent into productivity. A trained team performs better when it has digitized processes, organized customer service and automated compliance controls.

At TEKFENIX we support that transformation with custom enterprise software and products such as Nexturno (queue and appointment management), Servigo365 (helpdesk and multichannel AI support) and CumplimientoControl (financial compliance and regulatory traceability), built so Caribbean and Latin American companies can make the most of the talent and investment arriving.
