Will Move 50% of Its Government Services to Agentic AI Within Two Years

2026-08-19

On August 18, 2026, the United Arab Emirates announced progress on its National Agentic AI Project, an initiative targeting 50% of federal government services, operations and administrative tasks running on artificial intelligence agents within two years. The directive comes from Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and falls under the Government 4.0 strategy.

How the project is structured

The technical core is FedAI, a shared federal technology platform giving every government entity the same infrastructure to build and deploy agent-based solutions. This prevents each ministry from building its own isolated stack, a classic mistake in public sector digital transformation.

The project is organized into five tracks: operations and institutional support, strategic government work, citizen services, technology and data, and capacity building. More than 100 senior officials have already taken part in workshops run by the national committee in charge. The first cohort of deployed agents supports procurement, tax auditing, customer service and technical support workflows.

The design principle: humans lead

The interesting part of the announcement is not the numeric target but the stated approach: human leads, AI enables. The plan calls for classifying tasks before automating them, coordinating adoption across entities and reducing operational duplication. In other words, fix the process first, then put an agent on top of it — the reverse of what many organizations attempt.

What a LATAM business can take from this

  • Customer service and technical support are the first ground. It is no accident that the four pilot areas include service and support: high-volume processes with repeatable patterns and clear resolution metrics.
  • A shared platform beats isolated pilots. Ten unintegrated pilots produce ten silos. A common layer for agents, data and identity is what enables scale.
  • Task classification is upfront work, not an afterthought. Knowing which task is an automation candidate, which needs supervision and which must stay human is a governance exercise that precedes the technology.
  • Training is its own track. The UAE treated it as one of five pillars, not a footnote to deployment.

The logic transfers cleanly to a bank branch, an insurer or a public institution in the Caribbean. At TEKFENIX we work that same ground with two products: Nexturno, for managing queues and appointments across branches and walk-in service offices, with real data on wait times and flow by service; and Servigo365, our AI-powered multichannel service desk, which resolves repetitive queries autonomously and escalates to humans what genuinely needs them. Both start from the same premise as the UAE project: order the process first, automate second. Let's talk at tekfenix.com.
